The Rinecker Proton Therapy Center (RTCP) in Munich is the first European proton radiation centre for outpatient treatment of cancer tumours.
For this new therapy procedure, high-energy proton radiation is used for cancer treatment. The special characteristic of proton radiation is that it has a low impact on healthy tissue. 4,000 to 5,000 patients per year can be treated in this centre.
For cooling the proton installation, two hybrid drycoolers of the company Jäggi/Güntner Schweiz AG are in use - optimally satisfying the requirements towards hygiene and sound insulation. For the drycooling the refrigerating machines, 9 Güntner drycoolers are installed. At a maximum ambient temperature of 34 °C, the drycoolers cool the water-brine-mixture from 47.5 to 41 °C. They have an overall refrigerating capacity of 3500 kW plus a reserve of 500 kW.
